Stronger Together : Nutrition - Disability Links and Synergies

Malnutrition and disability are both major global health problems. There are an estimated one billion people worldwide living with a disability of whom some 93 million are children aged under 14 years. Worldwide, almost one billion people are malnourished. Malnutrition remains a major cause of child mortality, with the latest estimates suggesting that undernutrition causes 3.1 million child deaths annually; 45% of all child deaths. Over-nutrition is also a problem: overweight and obesity being key factors underlying the growing epidemic of non-communicable disease.
